Last year, Fairfax County underfunded our FCPS budget – and we pay for it every day.

BUDGET ROADMAP

Confused about the budget process?

It all starts at the state level: The Virginia General Assembly allocates funding to school districts across the state.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors (BOS) appropriates funds at the local level: The Fairfax County BOS approves the final county budget and allocates money to FCPS.
Whatever the BOS appropriates gets kicked to the School Board: The FCPS School Board is responsible for creating the final FCPS budget with the money allocated from the BOS.
THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PROCESS: you and your coworkers need to get involved to advocate for full funding of FCPS.

IMPORTANT DATES:

Feb 10: School Board holds public hearings on the budget
Feb 17: County Executive releases Advertised Budget Plan
Feb 24: Joint BOS/ School Board budget meeting
Feb 26: School Board Adopts FY 2027 Advertised Budget
March: BOS town halls throughout the month
Apr 14-16: County Executive releases Advertised Budget Plan
Apr 14: FCFT rally at the FFX county govt center
May 5: BOS adopts final budget
May 21: School Board adopts approved budget
Jul 1: Budget year begins
